How to find and use Sand and Clay

In Raft, you will often come across a variety of materials and items as you salvage and craft your way to sustainable survivability. Some items at first glance might not seem that appealing to you and your needs. However you will soon find that these somewhat basic materials will turn into many useful, even essential items.

A good example of this is Sand. Sand for example makes things such as Glass and Wet Brick. While that may not sound like a lot, once you factor in that Wet Brick and Glass are absolutely vital for creating many other stations and tools.

These items are often overlooked, so it is important to find and farm as much of each as you come across.

Where to find Sand and Clay

Finding both items is actually fairly straightforward but also easy to miss for a beginner. To find either item you will want to find yourself at an island. Once you have found an island simply dive underwater and check the ground to find them. Both Sand and Clay look pretty similar, with Clay having a darker tone to it. To harvest, pick them up with a hook tool!

What can you make with Sand and Clay in Raft?

As previously mentioned, you can combine the two to create a Wet Brick. Once you dry the bricks you make you can create a Smelter - which in turn creates a whole new set of goodies.

Clay can also be used for a few useful things, such as:

Healing Salve - Recover lost HP

Clay Bowl - Needed to collect food from the Cooking Pot, single-use

Beehive - Den to raise bees on the raft

Alternatively, Sand can make Glass. Which also has plenty of uses.
